Life taught me to never give up, neither should you

This is my story …

Although I started helping business owners over a decade ago, my passion for making a difference runs much further back.

They say that events in your life can determine the person you become. Whilst I believe this is very true I think it boils down to how you respond to the events in your life, the whole ‘respond rather than react’ theory. The moment we realise that life will never be plain sailing and that the things that happen to us aren’t out of the ordinary is the most important realisation we will ever encounter. Once we understand that everyone has the same level of difficulty just through different circumstances, we are able to be more at peace, that chip on our shoulder will disappear.

Speaking of chips on the shoulder, I have a very large one, a physical one. At the age of two I was diagnosed with Kyphoscolios and told I would unlikely walk or have a very good quality of life.

Having a physical disability comes with its obstacles: there’s the social acceptance, more so as a child growing up but the social difficulties you face as a child do impact you as an adult and lead to feelings of never belonging anywhere.

Growing up I always felt I had something to prove. To my family I wanted to be worth something, to my friends I wanted to be fun to be around, in work I wanted to be amazing. Looking down on myself I was capable of anything, my mind was always strong and I never doubted my abilities, if only others saw me the way I saw myself.

All of the complications in my life meant that from a young age, I adopted an incredible drive to overcome any challenges laid out in front of me, be the best I can be and get the most from life.

Because of my disability, getting a job proved almost impossible for me in my younger years and I was left with no other option but to start my own business and with no choice other than to make it a success. I spent a great deal of time trying to work out what to do and found myself asking how was someone like me with no capital supposed to start a business? I knew that if I could find a solution for myself then I could help other brave owners to start and grow their small businesses too.

Enough was enough.
So, I taught myself marketing.

Through a lot of hard work, I eventually got good at it and over the years, I’ve used my knowledge and expertise to grow three of my own businesses from the ground up. Having achieved some great success, I wanted to share my experience and learnings with other business owners who may feel isolated and be struggling to make marketing work for them. So in 2008, I took the plunge and started my own marketing consultancy. Rather than a stereotypical agency, I wanted to create a business that reflects my passion, for giving business owners the chance to grow their business based on cost effective marketing and a return on investment they can actually measure and prove.

Now a decade on, I’m proud of what I’ve achieved and how I’ve been loyal to my vision all those years ago. I am dedicated to helping business owners and am as passionate as they are about making their business work.

I’ve been on an incredible journey over the years and I’m proud to say that, with my team behind me, I’ve played a part in making dreams come true.

If you think you could make more of your business but aren’t sure where to start, give me a call and let’s talk about what’s important, how to get the most out of your business.
