How to Use AI for SEO (Without Making It Sound Like Everyone Else)

As always, let’s just say it how it is.

Everyone’s banging on about AI and SEO at the minute. Half of them are overhyping it, the other half are using it so badly their websites all sound identical.

Somewhere in the middle is where it actually works.

So here’s the straight answer.

AI can help with SEO. It can speed things up, give you ideas, and take the edge off the boring bits. But it should never replace your thinking.

The best way to use AI for SEO is to support your content, not replace it. Use it for ideas, drafts, and saving time, but keep your own experience and voice in the final version.

It’s like a calculator for an accountant.

Useful? Yes.
Doing the job for you? No.

Why I’m saying this (and not just repeating what’s trending)

I’ve been doing SEO for years.

I didn’t learn it from a course or a guru. I figured it out myself, tested things, got things wrong, fixed them, and carried on.

I’ve seen Google change over and over again. I’ve seen people chase shortcuts and regret it later. I’ve seen what actually works long term.

So when you’re thinking about how to use AI for SEO, this isn’t theory. It’s experience.

How to use AI for SEO step by step

If you want something simple you can actually follow, do this.

  1. Start with a real question your customer would ask
  2. Write your answer in your own words
  3. Use AI to expand your ideas or structure it
  4. Add your own experience and opinions
  5. Use AI to tidy it up
  6. Publish it

That’s it. No complicated system needed.

I understand my comments refer to content and yes AI can do much more and really streamline things but I don’t want to go down a rabbit hole right now and we are all still figuring out so you won’t find any AI hype here.

How to use AI for SEO without messing it up

Most people are either avoiding AI completely or letting it run the whole show.

Neither makes sense.

Start with what your customer actually asks.

What are they typing into Google?
What do they get confused about?

That’s your content.

Then bring AI in to help, not take over.

You can use it to:

  • jog your memory if you’re stuck
  • give you a few extra angles
  • help structure your thoughts

But it shouldn’t be doing the thinking for you.

Using AI for SEO content without sounding like everyone else

This is where most people fall over.

They ask AI to write a blog, skim it, tweak a line, and publish it.

Then nothing happens.

Because most of that content sounds the same. Safe, generic, and forgettable.

If you’re using AI for SEO content, treat it as a starting point, not the finished job.

Go back through it properly. Change it. Add to it. Make it sound like you.

If your customer read it, would they recognise your voice? If not, it needs work.

Using AI for SEO and keywords without overthinking it

Yes, AI can help with keyword ideas.

But don’t overcomplicate it.

The mistake people make when using AI for SEO is chasing loads of keywords instead of answering one thing properly.

Focus on:

  • real questions
  • real problems
  • how your customers actually speak

AI can guide you, but you still need to think like a human.

The truth about using AI for SEO

AI isn’t ruining SEO.

People using it badly are.

If you rely on AI to do everything, you’ll end up with the same content as everyone else doing the same thing.

If you use it properly, it will:

  • save you time
  • help you stay consistent
  • give you ideas when you’re stuck

But it won’t replace your brain…..just yet. Although I am now 45 and hope it does within the next 5 years so I can go off fishing.
