How Does SEO Work?

I have been mastering SEO since 2008, you can tell by the bags under my eyes it isn’t something that you can do and boom it works, it is a life-learning skill.

SEO stands for search engine optimisation and it all boils down to making Google see that your site deserves to be in their top listings.

Very hard to summarise every single task involved, I am more than happy to jump on a zoom anytime and take you through live examples of what it would take for your site to be position one, for now here is a quick overview.

There are five main components:

1:Keyword research

If you don’t research the right keywords that your IDEAL client/customer is using to find what you offer, then you will end up ranking for phrases that don’t bring conversions. This is a waste of time and your money.

We take a look at your competitors and ask you who your ideal client/customer is and then we check search volumes to make sure people are actually searching for them. We are not interested in making ourselves look clever with top potions if nobody is searching. You have to be listed for the right keywords/phrases.

2:Technical SEO

Next we have to make sure Google likes your website and it passes all their algorithm requirements. We invest a lot of money in good software that tells us exactly what Google likes and dislikes about your site. This tech score changes often so we scan a few times a week.

If Google can’t access or like all of your pages, it is not going to rank them no matter how much on-page SEO you do.

3:On-page SEO

If you ask me what it would take to get you on page one for a specific keyword, I can show you. We have all the tools and knowledge to be able to compare your page to those that rank on page one. There are over 250 on-page factors that are considered. Going back to the keyword research, if you don’t optimise for the right phrase its all a waste of time.

Content plays a massive part in on-page SEO. Depending on the sector your website is in, Google wants to show the most relevant site to the searcher. Your page has to be the best based on the search term. Google won’t just rank you because you put the keyword in the header and meta, you have to show an understanding of semantic search and relevancy. In  a nutshell, you have to think of your ideal client/customer and give them the best experience.

4:Core vitals

For two years now, Google has asked us to provide fast and secure websites that load well and provide a good experience. Core vitals is something we take very seriously. We can fix most issues but if we can’t then we let you know and ask for your web developer to assist.

5:Off page SEO

Finally we have off page SEO which is primarily back links. For the last ten years we have not built backlinks only managed them. If you get toxic backlinks they can really damage your rankings. Google put less emphasis on backlinks now and more on other factors like I have explained in points 1-4. If you do want to use backlinks they should never be bought, instead you should use a good PR strategy to get link from relevant sites with relevant content.

If you are still reading and not bored, well done. SEO isn’t rocket science but it is in-depth. One thing I can assure you of is that there is never guess work or excuses. I can show you live anytime what Google thinks of your site and what it would take to get ahead of your competitors.
